Research and Technology: Indonesia Time to Develop Nuclear
Minister of Research and Technology (Research and Technology) Gusti Muhammad Hatta assess Indonesia's time to start developing nuclear energy for energy needs and development of food resources to improve people's welfare.
"If people are willing and able to accept we have to begin to develop nuclear energy before the natural resources such as coal and the other out," said Research and Technology in an interactive dialogue with South Kalimantan Governor Rudy Ariffin and researchers of regional R & D institutions of Borneo, in Banjarmasin, Friday .
According to Hatta, currently it is very difficult to change the public about nuclear stigma, making it difficult to develop technologies that are actually much cheaper than other energy.
Society, said Hatta, still think that nuclear energy can only be used for bombing as happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the latter in Fukushima Japan yanga affected by the tsunami.
Incidence of nuclear radiation in the country is making people more and more difficult to accept that energy development because they thought the death of thousands of residents due to radiation whereas the majority caused by the tsunami.
And added Hatta, nuclear has the benefit that is wide enough, not only for the development of energy such as electricity but can also be developed to meet increased food sector.
As the development of rice seeds of superior nuclear radiation that the result is much better than regular rice seedlings.
"So if people can accept, when it's time to develop the energy, do not be late if delayed could be likened to people who want to defecate but out in the pants," said Gusti laughter greeted the participants.
According to Hatta, the Kalimantan region suitable for development of nuclear energy because of its characteristics that is free from earthquakes than Java, but constrained in the mindset of people who can not accept.
There are two areas in Kalimantan and East Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan are ready to develop this energy, but now the Ministry of Research and Technology is still the focus of developing nuclear energy in the region of Sumatra.
Statement delivered at the Head of Batan Hadi Hustowo that society's negative stigma towards the development of nuclear energy is still difficult to be eliminated.
Thus, the development of cheap energy that has yet to be implemented to the maximum, when the energy can be utilized for various activities not only for electricity but also for hospitals and agriculture.
In South Kalimantan he said, had two agencies that utilize the energy of Banjarmasin Ulin Hospital and in animal feed factory Pelaihari Tanah Laut District.
Energy utilization at the two sites in South Kalimantan have been approved by the Batan.
