Frank Lampard felt we controlled the game for the first hour at Wembley in Saturday's FA Cup Final, and fully deserved a fourth victory in six years in the competition.
Ramires and Didier Drogba gave us a two-goal lead before Liverpool sub Andy Carroll brought them back into the game, but he could not prevent the Blues from lifting the trophy on a memorable May evening for the Stamford Bridge faithful.
'It's been a brilliant competition for us. It was a tough game and coming into it with the game in two weeks on people's minds, it feels as good as ever to win it,' Lampard said afterwards.
'They get sweeter as you get older because you know they don't keep going forever. Today we enjoyed it very much, it's been a tough season and it makes it special to win.
'We got a great start, Ramires has been brilliant all season and scored a good goal. To get your nose in front is massive and we controlled it. We could have killed them off, then maybe got a bit over-confident and they got the goal and it was backs to the wall.
'We were very focused, we played a fantastic game and they never really looked like troubling us. We controlled elements of the game when we went 2-0 up, Andy Carroll came on and changed that.'
The midfielder feels interim first team coach Roberto Di Matteo deserves huge credit for the way he has led the team to this triumph, and the Champions League Final.
'He deserves every accolade you can possibly give him for the job he's done,' Lampard said. 'In three months to turn it around from a difficult situation to get the big players playing, confidence in the team and the fans behind us as he has done.'
