Goalkeeper Petr Cech was delighted to get his hands on his fourth FA Cup winners' medal after making a decisive save nine minutes from time.
We led 2-1 thanks to goals from Ramires and Didier Drogba before substitute Andy Carroll had clawed one back for Liverpool at Wembley, and when the striker headed towards goal again, it took a point-blank save from Cech, pushing the ball up onto the crossbar and out, for us to maintain our lead.
For a moment it looked as though our opponents had equalised, but the assistant referee made the right call in judging that it had not crossed the line.
'I was convinced,' Cech said afterwards. 'When I saw the linesman I was sure he got it right, and I was saying no way was it in. The feeling I had, it was just on the line.
'We had the game under control until their goal, which lifted them and Carroll especially entered the game very well. He started wining headers, controlling the ball and laying off and they put more pressure on and scored the goal, giving them the belief they weren't buried yet. We had to fight until the last minute.'
Ramires had put us on top with his 10th minute goal, the first in an FA Cup Final for a Brazilian.
'To score first puts you on the front foot and you know the opposition has to do something about it,' said Cech. 'Then we scored a great second goal and we had control of the game. With a 2-0 lead we just needed to be careful but the clearance came to Carroll and he took his chance, so in the last 20 minutes we had to fight hard to keep the score at 2-1.'
And so it was that Drogba's strike, his fourth in as many FA Cup finals, settled the destination of the trophy.
'It's fantastic. This is his stadium, he has been scoring all the time and you can see it coming every time he touches the ball. He shoots, he scores,' was the goalkeeper's assessment of his team-mate.
This win also sets us up perfectly for the Champions League Final in Munich, now less than two weeks away.
'It's a great boost because any time you win a trophy it gives you confidence and a good mood, so now we have two weeks to prepare and we have another opportunity for this feeling again,' Cech said. 'We can concentrate on that full of confidence - it would have been completely different if we'd lost, but we didn't.'
